Built in 1834, the Biarritz lighthouse, 44 meters high for 248 steps, dominates The Cape Hainsart
so named because the old oak trees that surrounded it.
The Lighthouse offers a breathtaking panorama of the Basque coast, the ocean and the mountains which, on a sunny day, is well worth the 248 steps it takes to get to the balcony at the top.
(Be prepared to queue for a while on busy days because, due to the limited width of both the staircase and the viewing balcony, access is limited to just a few people at a time).
